Move over, Lebowski, Jay Z and Beyonce are moving in.
The power couple have reportedly begun renting the mansion that appeared in the cult classic Big Lebowski for $150,000 per month. A princely sum, sure, but it also says the moguls know something about the volatility of Los Angeles’ housing market.
The pair have signed a one year lease on the property, according to TMZ.
Apparently, it’s a house they had tried to purchase last year, before being outbid by the home’s now-owner, a yet-unnamed British billionaire. The billionaire apparently doesn’t like LA, and is now renting back the $45 million home to his fellow bidders.
Given how successful the two celebrity musicians have been in recent years, they can certainly afford the rent. The couple each earned about 55 million dollars last year, ranking 28th and 29th on this year’s Forbes Celebrity 100. Their 2014 North American On The Run Tour grossed $100 million in just 19 dates.
A 20,000 square foot 5 bedroom, 6 bathroom, mansion that was formerly the home of ex-Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, the house features an outdoor pool with a waterfall and well-manicured gardens. Heck, it’s even walking distance from the Playboy mansion.
Perhaps the interest in the place was spurred by a love of the cult classic film, which Beyonce actually sampled on her self-titled album from 2014; the classic “do you like sex?” monologue delivered by Julianne Moore appears in French at the end of her of her track Partition.
Or maybe it was just an easy move. The couple had been renting a similarly-priced home in the same neighborhood — Holmby Hills — but were given 60 days’ notice to vacate when that house was recently sold for $35.5 million.
Let’s just hope they and their daughter Blue Ivy are careful with the rugs — they really tie the rooms together.
