Leigh was spotted filming a scene with original series star Kyle McLaughlan (aka Detective Dale Cooper) for the highly anticipated 2017 Showtime revival, according to Deadline. Sheryl Lee (who previously played Laura Palmer and her cousin Maddy Ferguson) was also spotted.
As the details for the show’s third season are still secret, Showtime has not yet confirmed the rumors. Robert Knepper (Prison Break), Balthazar Getty (Brothers & Sisters’, and Amanda Seyfried (Big Love) have also reportedly been cast for the upcoming season. Deadline noted that Lynch has also been courting movie star Naomi Watts, whose rise to fame can be linked in no small part to her role in Lynch’s Mulholland Drive.
A release date hasn’t yet been set for the Twin Peaks‘ third season, but David Lynch will indeed direct every episode of the revival. Although it was originally planned to debut next year, series co-creator Mark Frost revealed over the summer that it has been delayed until 2017.
“The challenge for us is to try and come back and raise the bar above what we did the last time,” said Frost according to Variety. “We’re coming back with season three of Twin Peaks after a 25-year absence. We’ve finished the scripts, we start production in September, and that will be coming out on Showtime sometime in 2017.”
The critically acclaimed series original aired on ABC in 1990 and 1991, following the surreal investigation of the murder of Laura Palmer in a fictional Washington town.
Also upcoming for Leigh are starring roles in Quentin Tarantino’s Western The Hateful Eight and Charlie Kaufman’s stop-motion film Anomalisa.
