Lawrence has played Mystique in two of the films in the franchise to date (X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past), and will reprise the sexy blue mutant character for the final time in this, the third film hosting the younger generation of the core X-Men characters.
The report claims that J-Law’s character will have a more significant role in this film than in the past. That’s not surprising since Lawrence has earned herself some real street cred among the Hollywood elite thanks to high profile roles in films like Winter’s Bone, Silver Linings Playbook, and American Hustle, receiving Academy Award nominations for each, and winning one for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.
That win made her the second-youngest person to win a Best Actress Award. (Marlee Matlin still holds the record as the youngest at 21 – just a year younger than Lawrence at the time of her win – for her role in Children of a Lesser God back in 1986.) Lawrence has also resonated with the teen/tween crowd via her starring role in The Hunger Games series.
Reportedly, the relationship between Mystique and the character of Beast (played by Nicholas Hoult) will get more screen time in this film. And her relationhip with Erik and Charles will also be further explored.
Also returning for Apocalypse will be James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Rose Byrne. Not returning, however, will be Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. X-Men: Apocalypse is slated to hit theaters May 27, 2016.
