Although there isn’t much being revealed about the narrative direction the show will take at this point, Rosenberg recently made one thing clear: Female filmmaker will be charting the superhero’s future.
According to Mo Ryan of Variety, Rosenberg has announced that all 13 episodes of the second season of Jessica Jones will be directed by women. Ryan posted the news on Twitter while attending Rosenberg’s panel at the Transform Hollywood symposium.

With at least two — and possibly three — seasons of shows still to debut on Netflix before Jessica Jones returns, there’s no word yet on who might be behind the camera for the second season. The follow-up to the series’ acclaimed first season isn’t expected to begin shooting until mid- to late 2017 at the earliest, as Iron Fist and the team-up miniseries The Defenders (which brings together the cast of all four Marvel series on Netflix) are both scheduled to debut before Jessica Jones kicks off its Season Two.
The first season of Jessica Jones did feature some female directors, but the majority of episodes were helmed by male directors.
Rosenberg, who co-founded the League of Hollywood Women Writers and has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Writers Guild of America Awards, has been a vocal advocate for shaking up the Hollywood status quo when it comes to gender trends behind the camera.
There’s no official premiere date for the second season of Jessica Jones at this point, but it’s expected to follow both Iron Fist and The Defenders, and possibly the first season of The Punisher spinoff series.
