“To see Jurassic World come to life is like seeing Jurassic Park come true,” says Spielberg in the recently released, two-minute “A Look Inside” featurette created by Universal Studios and Legendary Pictures.
Along with Spielberg’s commentary on the film, which is set 22 years after the events of the original Jurassic Park movie and is directed by Safety Not Guaranteed filmmaker Colin Trevorrow, the featurette also offers up quite a bit of fresh footage — including some new scenes featuring Chris Pratt’s character and the pack of velociraptors with which he become embroiled. There are also a few more scenes teasing the genetically-engineered “super-dinosaur” that debuts in the film.
According to Trevorrow, the inspiration for the film comes from the idea that people would eventually grow bored even with something as amazing as Jurassic Park, prompting the Park to make changes in order to stay in business, as all theme parks do. The director has compared the nucleus of that inspiration to the image of a teenager texting on his phone while leaning against the glass of a dinosaur enclosure that separates him from a living, breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Along with Pratt, the film stars Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help), Ty Simpkins (Insidious), Jake Johnson (Let’s Be Cops), Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summer), Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi), Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), BD Wong (Jurassic Park), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Katie McGrath (Merlin), Lauren Lapkus (Blended), and Andy Buckley (Bridesmaids).
Jurassic World arrives in standard and 3D theaters, as well as IMAX theaters, June 12, 2015.
