'Justice League' sizzle reel offers a sneak peek at superhero team-up movie

There’s just over a year until Justice League arrives in theaters, but director Zack Snyder commemorated the conclusion of the film’s principal production with a brief video featuring some of the behind-the-scenes action from the 2017 film.

Snyder posted the video on Twitter, and the 90 seconds of footage offers a little something from all of the film’s superhero stars — with the exception of one conspicuously low-profile character.

Featured in the video are the core team members: Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. Henry Cavill’s Superman also makes a brief appearance around 37 seconds into the video.

Along with providing a peek at the cast in action together, the video also seems to offer further evidence of Warner Bros. Pictures’ efforts to insert some levity in its DC Comics cinematic universe after the first two films — 2013’s Man of Steel and this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — were widely criticized for their dark, depressing tone.

The cast of Justice League also includes Amber Heard, who will portray Atlantean Queen Mera, as well as Willem Dafoe as Aquaman’s adviser, Vulko, and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon.

The official plot synopsis for the film is as follows: “Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash — it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”

Justice League is scheduled to hit theaters November 10, 2017.

Most popular DCEU movies, ranked by box-office gross
Justice League character shot.

Beginning with 2013's Man of Steel, the DC Extended Universe has had a tumultuous 10-year run. While some of its films were tremendous success stories, some didn't fare so well, and others have gone down as some of the worst superhero movies ever made.

All this has given the franchise a mixed reputation and has made some audiences eager to see how James Gunn will reboot everything with his new DC Universe. As the DCEU nears its end, now is a good time to rank the most popular movies in this cinematic universe in terms of box-office gross.
