Smack-dab in the middle of those halcyon days came Legends of the Hidden Temple, a game show that pitted teams of colorfully-dressed adolescents against one another in a show that was equal parts Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones. The show is still talked about today and fans have been hoping that — like a mummy emerging from a sarcophagus — it might one day return to the air.
Well strap on your bright yellow safety helmets, folks, because it looks like you’ll soon get your wish … sort of.
While Legends of the Hidden Temple won’t be returning exactly as you remember it, Variety reports that Nickelodeon is working on a TV movie based on the show.
While that might not sound like the revival you were looking for, the film (Hidden Temple) sounds as if it will be drawing quite a bit of inspiration from its predecessor and it might be fun for fans to get some background information on beloved elements of the original series.
Case in point: Olmec, the all-knowing stone visage that guided youngsters through the temple, will reportedly return for the TV movie. We can also expect to see green monkeys, red jaguars, silver snakes, and even the Steps of Knowledge!
The premise of the film, too, sounds an awful lot like the “plot” of the game show. Hidden Temple will follow three siblings who need to conquer a series of obstacles to stay alive. Granted, staying alive was pretty much a given in the original, but otherwise it seems to translate pretty well.
Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), will star in the film, which has yet to identify an exact release date, but is set to debut during the fourth quarter of 2016.
