The second full trailer for Luke Cage features Mike Colter reprising his role as Luke Cage after making his debut in the first season of Jessica Jones. Along with offering a preview of how Luke becomes the reluctant hero of his Harlem neighborhood, the trailer also features a surprise appearance by Wu Tang Clan member Method Man — who ends up trading sweatshirts with Cage after the pair meet.
In addition to the cameo by Method Man, the trailer also includes a moment that comics fans will certainly appreciate: Cage uttering his famous — and famously silly — catchphrase from the comics, “Sweet Christmas!”
The third new series to come out of Marvel’s partnership with Netflix, Luke Cage has Colter’s character returning to Harlem after the events of Jessica Jones, only to encounter a new threat that brings him out of the shadows and into the spotlight as his neighborhood’s best defense against the criminals terrorizing it. Becoming a hero doesn’t come without some troubles, though, and Cage must confront the demons of his past before he can move on.
Along with Colter in the lead role and Emmy-nominated House of Cards actor Mahershala Ali as the first-season villain, the series also stars Simone Missick (The Road to Sundance) as Misty Knight, Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction) as Rafael Scarfe, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, and Alfre Woodard (Cross Creek) as Mariah Dillard. Rosario Dawson, who appeared in both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, reprises her role as Claire Temple.
Cheo Hodari Coker (Notorious, NCIS: Los Angeles) serves as the showrunner on the series and also penned the scripts for the first two episodes.
Luke Cage will be followed next year by the first season of Iron Fist, which will introduce actor Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) as Danny Rand, the mystical martial artist and title character of the series. All four characters — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist — will then come together for the crossover series The Defenders later next year.
Luke Cage will be available September 30 on Netflix.
