The two father figures couldn’t be more different, with Ferrell’s character being the suit-wearing Scout troop leader and Wahlberg’s the leather jacket-clad motorcyclist. Friction forms between the men even before the kids’ dad rolls into town, but it quickly becomes a problem. As each tries to prove that he’s the number one guy in their kids’ lives, an out-of-control dad battle begins. Gestures like bringing home a mangy dog are topped with a new pony, a treehouse started by one is finished by the other, and at least one wall is destroyed when Ferrell’s character flies through it. The trailer has several laugh out loud moments and gives us a good look at the dynamic between the two hilarious actors.
This isn’t the first time Ferrell and Wahlberg have joined comedic forces. They played cops in The Other Guys, a 2010 action-comedy that critics gave a respectable 79 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer (at the time of publishing). More recently, Ferrell surprised everyone by starring in a Lifetime Original Movie with Kristen Wiig — something that seemed like it could be an elaborate ruse, right up until it actually aired and delightfully wasn’t. Wahlberg, on the other hand, is headed back to theaters with Ted 2, a raunchy comedy more in line with their upcoming flick, later this week.
