Marvel and Disney announce Captain America 2 for 2014

Considering that both Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 have already been announced, it should come as no surprise that Captain America: The First Avenger will be getting a sequel.

According to Walt Disney Studios, the second Captain America film will be released on April 4, 2014. Apparently, the second installment will pick-up after the events in Marvel’s The Avengers. Steve Rogers will continue his struggles in the modern world, while dealing with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.

So far we can only confirm that Chris Evans will be returning as Rogers, and that Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (writers of Captain America: The First Avengers) are going to write the screenplay. No director has been attached, but we wouldn’t mind seeing Joe Johnston get behind the camera again–although rumor has him involved with next year’s Jurassic Park IV first.
