Grazer revealed the project during an interview with Bloomberg Television‘s Emily Chang at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in San Francisco. “I’m going to do a movie with Netflix,” he shared. “I’m going to do a tour-de-force movie that’s cinéma vérité with Eddie Murphy being as raw as he can be.”
It seems that Grazer may have let his news slip a little too early, though. A source told Deadline that it was premature to announce the project at this point. Apparently, many details still have to be finalized, including contracts. Hopefully, the fact that word is out will spur on all parties involved to ensure that it happens.
Grazer also discussed how platforms like Netflix, Amazon, and others are challenging the networks. For the time being, Grazer believes that networks are at an advantage in terms of scale, but that they should be worried. “Cable television and digital platforms are breaking through with content that matters,” he said.
Netflix previously revived Imagine’s Arrested Development for a fourth season, which is available to the service’s subscribers for streaming. A fifth season of the popular series is coming as well and is due to hit Netflix in spring 2016.
