New trailer for Netflix’s Ridiculous 6 kicks off a ridiculous Adam Sandler adventure

An over-the-top adventure is coming to Netflix. The streamer released the first trailer for The Ridiculous 6 Tuesday, the first of four exclusive Netflix movies set to star Adam Sandler. Based on the preview, the story will be as ridiculous the title implies — and intentionally so.

The Ridiculous 6 is a comedy set in the Wild West that satirizes westerns, particularly The Magnificent Seven. Unlike the seven gunslingers featured in the 1960 film, The Ridiculous 6’s protagonists aren’t the most talented bunch. Sure, Sandler’s character, Tommy “White Knife” Stockburn, can quickly escape down walls using only his knives, but a less skilled member of the group manages to fall flat on his back. Others also look like liabilities, describing themselves simply as hungry or drunk.

What the group has in common, it turns out, is DNA. The trailer shows the six discovering that they have the same long-lost father, an outlaw named Frank Stockburn (played by Nick Nolte). It’s enough to get them to team up to undertake a dangerous journey to save him.

The comedy boasts a notable cast, including Sandler, Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, and Luke Wilson as the Stockburn brothers. Other members of the ensemble cast include David Spade, Will Forte, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, Whitney Cummings, Norm MacDonald, and more. Even musicians Blake Shelton and Vanilla Ice have roles. Frank Coraci directed the movie and the script was written by Tim Herlihy. Sandler and Allen Covert produced.

The Ridiculous 6 is just the second Netflix original feature film, due almost two months after the release of Beasts of No Nation, starring Idris Elba. The next Netflix-Sandler collaboration is The Do Over, which is set to begin filming in summer 2017.

The Ridiculous 6 hits Netflix on Dec. 11.

Enter the world of The Sandman in Netflix’s new trailer
Tom Sturridge as Morpheus stands with his back to the camera in an image from the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.

In the late '80s and early '90s, writer Neil Gaiman and an assortment of artists collaborated on The Sandman comic book series, which helped redefine the medium for mature readers. It has taken the better part of three decades to bring this fantasy story to live-action, but the wait is almost over. Netflix has announced that the series will finally premiere this summer.

To go along with the news, Netflix dropped a new teaser trailer for the series which reveals how Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) was captured over a century ago. This was no small feat, since Morpheus is the King of Dreams and one of the Endless. Once Morpheus is freed, he finds himself somewhat unprepared for the mortal realm. And his own realm, the Dreaming, has been dying without his presence.

Big Hero 6’s breakout star, Baymax, returns in a new trailer
Big Hero 6's Baymax returns in a new series.

Casual fans may not realize it, but Baymax is a Marvel superhero. However, Disney took a number of creative liberties when they adapted Baymax and his team into the 2014 feature film, Big Hero 6. In this continuity, Baymax is an inflatable health care robot created by Tadashi Hamada. Upon Tadashi's apparent death, his younger brother, Hiro Hamada, reprogrammed Baymax so he could become a superhero. But now, it's time for Baymax to live up to his original programming.

Next month, Disney+ will debut Baymax! -- a new original series that spins out of Big Hero 6. If you're expecting superhero fights, you won't find them here. In the new trailer for the series, Hiro is surprised when Baymax strikes out on his own to heal the people of San Fransokyo ... whether they want his help or not! The lush CGI animation of the trailer is also very impressive.

Adam Sandler discovers an NBA prospect in Hustle’s trailer
Juancho Hernangomez and Adam Sandler in Hustle.

There are a lot of Adam Sandler comedies on Netflix -- perhaps too many. That's because Sandler signed a development deal with Netflix long before many of his fellow stars did. And this summer, Sandler is making a rare detour into drama with Hustle, a new Netflix original movie he produced alongside NBA superstar, LeBron James.

Within the film, Sandler plays Stanley Sugerman, an international talent scout for the Philadelphia 76ers. It's a dead-end job for someone who has aspirations of becoming an NBA coach someday. At least until Stanley comes across the prospect of a lifetime: Bo Cruz. Appropriately enough, Bo is portrayed by an actual NBA player: Juancho Hernangómez of the Utah Jazz.
