Marvel announces five new Disney+ series: Secret Invasion, Ironheart, more

The next few years were already looking good for Marvel fans, but with Disney adding several new shows to the upcoming schedule, they’re looking even better.

During the Disney Investor Day event held December 10, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced several new live-action and animated series headed to streaming service Disney+ in the near future. Among the shows will be several projects set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and featuring veteran MCU actors, as well as a few stand-alone series and specials.

First and foremost among the new live-action series is Secret Invasion, which will bring Samuel L. Jackson back as Nick Fury and feature Captain Marvel actor Ben Mendelsohn as the shape-changing Skrull named Talos. The show will find the pair caught up in an invasion of Earth by the Skrull, and Feige indicated the project will be an important crossover event that shapes the future of the MCU.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion trailer pits Nick Fury against the Skrulls
Samuel L. Jackson in Secret Invasion.

Do you remember the last time that Nick Fury appeared in the MCU? It was a light-hearted post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home, where Fury was apparently vacationing on a Skrull starship and looking for his missing shoes. But you won't find anything funny about the new trailer for Secret Invasion.

Instead, Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series is embracing a sense of paranoia that's been missing from its movies for years. After all, it's hard to trust anyone when the Skrulls can change their appearance on a dime. The worst part is that this is all Fury's fault.

Hawkeye: Everything we know about Marvel’s Disney+ series

Clint Barton may be retiring, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe won't be without a Hawkeye. In Hawkeye, the Marvel spinoff headed to Disney+, Jeremy Renner will return as the MCU's resident archer to pass off his bow and arrows -- and the Hawkeye code name -- to a new generation.

On November 24, Jeremy Renner will officially begin the process of passing the bow to Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop when the first two episodes of the new series hit Disney+. Here's everything that we know about Hawkeye so far.
Little MCU tie-in
Speaking with Games Radar, director Rhys Thomas described Hawkeye as "definitely a stand-alone thing." "But yes, we know their past, and obviously what happened in Endgame," Thomas said. "We know in these first two episodes that Clint’s dealing with the fallout of that."

Hawkeye review: Two archers, one great start for Marvel’s new series
Hailee Steinfeld aims an arrow in a scene from Hawkeye.

Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye has always been the hard-luck hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's been mind-controlled by malevolent gods, had his entire family turned to dust, and even had to stand by helplessly as his best friend sacrifices herself to save the universe.

The Avengers' archer certainly hasn't had it easy, so it's especially nice to see him finally get the spotlight in Marvel's Hawkeye series on the Disney+ streaming service.
