New Skyline trailer released

The movie Skyline has been flying a bit under the radar so far. An early trailer was attached to Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, but beyond that, there doesn’t seem to be much buzz about this story of alien invasion. As the November release date approaches, that may change, and trailers like this one should definitely help.

Set in Los Angeles, Skyline follows a group of survivors following the introduction of a strange light that attracts people to it before sucking them up, whole populations at a time, which threatens to swallow the entire human population. The film is directed the Brothers Strause (Aliens Vs. Predators: Requiem), and it stars Eric Balfour (24), Scottie Thompson (Trauma) and Donald Faison (Scrubs).

Why is it so hard to make a hit Terminator movie again?
Arnold Schwarzenegger aims a rocket launcher out of a car window.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Robert Zuckerman; Warner Bros.

He said he'd be back, didn't he? On July 2, 2003, The Terminator finally made good on his promise. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the blockbuster sequel that turned 20 this month, brought James Cameron's sci-fi action franchise into the 21st century, albeit without the involvement of Cameron himself, nor that of two of the stars of the previous installment in the series, Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong. What the movie had going for it was the hulking man in biker black: A dozen years after he last donned the leather and shades, Arnold Schwarzenegger reprised his signature role, the literal killing machine with the oddly Austrian accent, the bad robot gone good, the T-800.

The captain stares out the window at the sun in Sunshine.

In an era when the movies at your typical multiplex were much more varied than they are today, we got plenty of original sci-fi fare. These seven movies are those kinds of gems -- sci-fi movies that deserve a better shot than they were given upon their initial release.
