The Martian and Terra Nova actress Naomi Scott will play Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
The casting was announced via the official Power Rangers movie Instagram account, making Scott the first cast member to join the upcoming film. As the Pink Ranger, Scott takes on the role originally portrayed by Amy Jo Johnson during the first three seasons of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series, and later played by Catherine Sutherland in subsequent Power Rangers series.

One of the most popular kids’ shows of the ’90s and one of the longest-running live-action kids’ shows in U.S. television history, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted on FOX in 1993 and went on to spawn 22 seasons of shows, 18 spinoff series, and two feature-length, live-action films. The original series follows a group of high-school kids who are recruited to fight intergalactic villains and given special powers that allow them to “morph” into superheroes equipped with an array of alien weapons, vehicles, and even a massive robot formed by combining their respective vehicles.
Recent reports have indicated a few other actors who are potentially up for roles in the film, including KJ Apa (Shortland Street), Austin Butler (Arrow, The Carrie Diaries), and Mitchell Hope (Descendants) reportedly contending for the role of Jason, the Red Ranger (via ComingSoon.net); and Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian Marc (Major Crimes) for the role of Zack, the Black Ranger.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is set to be directed by Project Almanac filmmaker Dean Isrealite, based on a script penned by X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters Jan. 13, 2017.
