Samuel L. Jackson is ready for more fun in ‘Captain Marvel’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is bringing back a familiar face once again: Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of Captain Marvel, Deadline reports. He is set to reprise his role as Avengers recruiter Nick Fury and will appear alongside his Kong: Skull Island co-star Brie Larson.

Jackson first took on his Marvel character for 2008’s Iron Man and has continued to play Fury frequently over the past decade. He returned for Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and he even appeared in episodes of the TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Needless to say, Jackson is an MCU staple, so he seems perfect to help launch a new superhero tentpole.

Captain Marvel will be the first of Disney’s MCU films to be powered by a female superhero. In July 2016, Marvel made its official announcement that Larson would star in the flick as the titular heroine, also known as Carol Danvers. Her character is an Air Force pilot who develops superhuman powers. In the comics, she is actually the first Ms. Marvel, and her special abilities stem from a fusion of alien and human genes. Over the years, she has been associated with both the Avengers and the X-Men, and therefore it is fitting that Larson is expected to make her MCU debut in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Jackson is also part of the star-studded Infinity War cast, which is just one of the many projects he has done or has signed on for since his most recent Marvel film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The actor has kept busy since, doing recent films like xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and the documentary I Am Not Your Negro, among many others. It is a wonder he manages to fit so many Marvel films in, but fans should have no complaints.

Official confirmation of Jackson’s involvement in Captain Marvel is still to come, along with more insight on how Fury will be involved with Danvers’ story. Hopefully, that will come soon. There’s still time, though. Captain Marvel isn’t due out in theaters until March 8, 2019.

Who is Ms. Marvel?: A brief guide to the MCU’s next big hero

In exactly 50 days, Ms. Marvel will premiere on Disney+ as the newest Marvel Studios original series. This also marks the first time that a character created in this century has headlined her own Marvel series. However, the relatively recent introduction of Ms. Marvel as a heroine means that she isn't as widely known as many of her fellow Marvel characters. But she has been one of the breakout creations of the last decade in Marvel's comic book universe -- and she could have the same impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well.

The first thing you need to know is that Ms. Marvel is a legacy character. Carol Danvers, the current Captain Marvel, was the original Ms. Marvel in 1977. The new Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan, a teenage heroine created in 2013 by editors Sana Amanat and Stephen Wacker, writer G. Willow Wilson, and artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie. The reason why Kamala took on the name Ms. Marvel is because she idolizes Carol.

Captain Marvel star Brie Larson joins Fast and Furious 10

There's no shortage of performers in the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Now, there's another Oscar winner in the mix. Brie Larson has been added to the cast of Fast and Furious 10 in an undisclosed role.

Larson won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Joy Newsome in Room. Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron are the only other Oscar winners among the Fast Saga cast. But only Theron and Larson are confirmed to appear in the next film. Larson's other film credits include The Glass Castle, Kong: Skull Island, and Captain Marvel.

Marvel reveals more of Moon Knight in new featurette

For the uninitiated, Marvel's title character from Moon Knight looks a lot like Batman in a white costume. That's fair, to a certain extent. Comic book fans have been making that comparison since Doug Moench and Don Perlin created Moon Knight in 1975. But that's also why Marvel Studios' upcoming adaptation is leaning into the things that separate Moon Knight from the Dark Knight. This show will play up two of the key aspects behind Moon Knight: His supernatural connection with Khonshu (the Egyptian god of the moon) and his own deteriorating mental health.

In a new video from Marvel Studios, Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and May Calamawy, join Kevin Feige and director Mohamed Diab as they introduce the character to new viewers. There's also some fresh footage of Steven Grant (Isaac) as he transforms into Moon Knight and a peek at the show's Egyptian setting.
