J.J. Abrams wraps filming on Star Wars: Episode VII with a baseball cap and a nice note

star wars episode vii finished filming 7 cast announce
It’s been a tumultuous production for Star Wars: Episode VII, with leaked photos, injured cast, and even some legal scuffles peppering the process of bringing the high-profile sequel to the screen. Principal photography on the film has now wrapped, though, leaving the fate of the project in the hands of director J.J. Abrams and his post-production team.

Crew member James Rose recently shared a photo (via Twitter) of a card sent to all of the cast and crew on the film that thanked them for all of their hard work on the production.  (The image has since been removed.) The card was accompanied by an official crew hat featuring the Episode VII logo.

The full text of the card reads as follows:

To the Extraordinary Cast and Crew of Episode VII:

It is a true honor and absolute joy to come to set every day and work alongside each of you. Your professionalism, passion and patience is more deeply appreciated than we could ever express. From the deserts of Abu Dhabi, to the Forest of Dean, to the stages of Pinewood, you have risen to every challenge and been as wonderfully kind as you are brilliantly talented. Our ambition here is large, of course, and it must be: we are here to make a film that entertains millions of people, of all ages, for generations. To create an experience people will cherish watching as much as we will cherish having made it, together. How lovely it would be if you had, in addition to your name on the screen, some actual real tangible proof that you were part of it! Here, then, is that proof. Wear it well, wear it healthily, wear it proudly. But, mostly, thank you.

With Love, JJ Abrams Kathleen Kennedy Bryan Burke

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to hit theaters 18, 2015.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan’s best allies, ranked
Obi-Wan Kenobi watching over a young Luke Skywalker

Obi-Wan Kenobi is arguably one of the most significant characters in the history of Star Wars. Throughout six movies and an animated TV series, the Jedi Master has helped many characters in the franchise grow to their full potential. Young, old, father, or son, Kenobi has taught them all. Some of these characters were even romantic interests that Kenobi couldn't fully pursue due to his adherence to the Jedi Code.

In case you don't have time to catch up on all the movies and The Clone Wars episodes before watching the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries on Disney+, here's a ranked list of his allies from over the years based on how strong his bonds are with these characters.

While the mammoth IP that is Star Wars is understandably regarded as a primarily live-action, theatrical franchise, the sprawling space opera has had its fair share of memorable stories in other mediums. The Clone Wars animated TV series is one such project, garnering an impressive fan following and strong critical reception throughout its 7-season run.

Yet, it might be one of the most undeservedly overlooked endeavors in the franchise. The Clone Wars retroactively provided a lot of necessary context for the dodgy prequel trilogy, filling in gaps and introducing plenty of compelling characters and story arcs across episodes that have told some of the galaxy's most resonant tales on Disney+.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Season 2 of The Mandalorian on Disney+ is off to a memorable start, introducing a host of new characters along with plenty of fan-favorite heroes and villains from elsewhere in Star Wars lore.

Along with forging some important connections to the Star Wars film franchise, The Mandalorian has drawn heavily from two beloved animated series set within the saga's timeline: Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. The two series are set between the events of Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope (occasionally overlapping with the events of Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith), so there's a lot of background material covered in both shows, as well as some key characters who now play important roles in The Mandalorian.
