JJ Abrams says no post-credits scene for The Force Awakens

star wars the force awakens end credits shot
Hopefully, when the end credits roll for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, you’ll be left wanting more. But according to ScreenCrush, you won’t get it. At least, not until another one of the many upcoming Star Wars projects makes its way into theaters.

In a press conference this past weekend, JJ Abrams was asked if there would be a post-credits scene or tease at the end of the upcoming Star Wars film and the director gave the closest thing to a straight answer that we’ve heard from him since he started working on the franchise: “No. All of the scenes are actually in the movie.”

There goes that Rogue One tease you may have been hoping for.

If you’re the type that no longer budges when the end credits start rolling, consider this a Public Service Announcement. When the film itself is finished, feel free to head for the nearest exit … and don’t forget your jacket.

While we all love a good franchise, tease, look on the bright side: This means you don’t have to spend twenty minutes finding out who played Imperial Commander #3, or who the assistant key grip was. The official run-time for this film is 02:16, and at 02:17, you can be out the door, comfortable in the knowledge that you aren’t missing anything. You can also hang around and poke fun at those who missed the memo, since you can bank on half the theater sticking around in anticipation of a post-credits scene, anyway.

These sorts of scenes have become pretty much par the course and — as anyone who has seen a Marvel movie knows — they sometimes contain some pretty revelatory stuff. Both Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, for instance, teased The Avengers, while Thor’s hammer made a telling appearance at the end of Iron Man 2.

Color us slightly disappointed that there will be nothing to wait for when the end credits for The Force Awakens roll, but something tells us that this film will do just fine, regardless.

The long-awaited seventh installment of Star Wars will arrive in theaters December 18, 2015.

7 things we wished Disney did differently with the Star Wars sequel trilogy
Fortnite Star Wars Scene

The Star Wars sequel trilogy was a divisive return to the galaxy far, far away. While it held so much promise with the success of The Force Awakens, subsequent films became the target of hate and ridicule from fans and critics to the point that everyone's hopes for the franchise seemed to have been dashed (at least until The Mandalorian came around).

The sad truth is that this trilogy was never going to live up to everyone's expectations, especially not with the astronomically high pedestal they had all placed the franchise on. Despite this, Disney could've done certain things differently that would've made it a more worthy follow-up to the original Star Wars movies.

Hocus Pocus 2 and 4 other sequels that took forever to come out
Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters stand near Tony Hale in a scene from Hocus Pocus 2.

Twenty-nine years after the release of the original Hocus Pocus, its long-delayed sequel finally premiered on Disney+. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprised their roles as the Sanderson sisters in the film, which struggles to recapture the original's magic but still delivers a funny and surprisingly heartfelt adventure for all the family. Mixing nostalgia with a modern touch, Hocus Pocus 2 will surely become a success on the streamer, playing throughout October and allowing for repeat viewings.

Hocus Pocus 2 is the latest in a string of long-gestating sequels finally seeing the light of day. We already had the massively successful Top Gun: Maverick this year, and December will see the release of James Cameron's hotly-anticipated Avatar: The Way Of Water. Some sequels take longer than others to take form, and while they're not always successful -- looking at you, Tron: Legacy and Dumb and Dumber To --, many found an audience, becoming worthy follow-ups to the originals and making up for the absurd amount of time it took for them to materialize.
