In a press conference this past weekend, JJ Abrams was asked if there would be a post-credits scene or tease at the end of the upcoming Star Wars film and the director gave the closest thing to a straight answer that we’ve heard from him since he started working on the franchise: “No. All of the scenes are actually in the movie.”
There goes that Rogue One tease you may have been hoping for.
If you’re the type that no longer budges when the end credits start rolling, consider this a Public Service Announcement. When the film itself is finished, feel free to head for the nearest exit … and don’t forget your jacket.
While we all love a good franchise, tease, look on the bright side: This means you don’t have to spend twenty minutes finding out who played Imperial Commander #3, or who the assistant key grip was. The official run-time for this film is 02:16, and at 02:17, you can be out the door, comfortable in the knowledge that you aren’t missing anything. You can also hang around and poke fun at those who missed the memo, since you can bank on half the theater sticking around in anticipation of a post-credits scene, anyway.
These sorts of scenes have become pretty much par the course and — as anyone who has seen a Marvel movie knows — they sometimes contain some pretty revelatory stuff. Both Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, for instance, teased The Avengers, while Thor’s hammer made a telling appearance at the end of Iron Man 2.
Color us slightly disappointed that there will be nothing to wait for when the end credits for The Force Awakens roll, but something tells us that this film will do just fine, regardless.
The long-awaited seventh installment of Star Wars will arrive in theaters December 18, 2015.
