Following yesterday’s announcement that a new trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens will premiere during tonight’s installment of Monday Night Football on ESPN, Disney and Lucasfilm have released a trio of teasers for the trailer that reveal some of the new footage before its official debut this evening.

And yes, at this point it’s pretty clear that the “teasers for trailers” trend isn’t going away any time soon — so if you’re a Star Wars fan, you might just want to set aside any reservations and sit back and enjoy the three brief previews of The Force Awakens. After all, they are another way to make the time go by a little faster between now and the film’s premiere in December.

The full trailer for The Force Awakens is set to debut Monday, October 19, during halftime of the National Football League game between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. The game kicks off at 8:15pm ET.

Along with the premiere of the new trailer, tickets for The Force Awakens will also officially go on sale this evening — so you might want to keep one eye on the television while also keeping the website for your theater of choice open and ready for clicking. Theaters are expected to sell out quickly, so you’ll want to keep some options in mind if you don’t get your first choice of venue.

Set 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens introduces a new generation of heroes and villains to the Star Wars universe, and brings back some very familiar faces, too. The cast of returning actors includes Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, and Peter Mayhew, and they’re joined by newcomers Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max Von Sydow.

The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay penned by Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, and Michael Arndt.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens officially hits theaters December 18, 2015.

Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie finds a writer

Shawn Levy is heading to a galaxy far, far away, and he's bringing a friend with him.

Per Jeff Sneider of The Insneider, Jonathan Tropper will pen Levy's Star Wars movie. Levy and Tropper have collaborated on several projects together, including 2014's This Is Where I Leave You and 2022's The Adam Project, with the latter being Netflix's third-most-popular movie in the streamer's history.

The Acolyte can’t escape Star Wars’ biggest Jedi problem

Across its first three episodes, The Acolyte has gotten off to a propulsive, if imperfect, start. The series, created by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland, is one of the only truly original (i.e., not a spinoff) pieces of Star Wars media that Disney has produced in the 12 years since it acquired Lucasfilm. As depressing as that is in and of itself, it's also helped The Acolyte. The show, for all of its flaws, feels fresh. It isn't weighed down or suffocatingly constricted by the events of any other Star Wars movie or TV show and, therefore, has the freedom to explore its characters and plot exactly how it wants.

That doesn't mean The Acolyte has been able to completely avoid making the same mistakes as all of the Star Wars titles that have come before it. On the contrary, the series, which focuses on the reemergence of the Sith near the end of the High Republic era, has struggled in its depiction of the Jedi Order. The Acolyte has, consequently, revived an issue that has plagued its franchise ever since 1999's Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.

Prior to the launch of Disney+ in 2019, there were no Star Wars live-action shows, and only a handful of animated series. The earliest Star Wars cartoons from the '80s, Droids and Ewoks, barely resembled anything from the movies. Decades later, Star Wars: The Clone Wars provided the blueprint for the franchise's animation resurgence, which in turn helped pave the way for The Mandalorian and the rest of the live-action shows.
