Ghostbusters reboot director Paul Feig has already treated us to a few glimpses of his upcoming movie, but this is the best one yet: A full shot of the new squad in costume. From left to right, you can see Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon ready for action.

Feig’s tweet came after a number of unofficial pictures made the rounds on the NeoGAF forum — the director was probably tempted into action as those leaked shots included a similar cast shot as well as pictures of a Ghostbusters-branded motorcycle and the new Ecto-1 car.

We didn’t get any new information with the tweet, but it gives us our best idea yet of what the Ghostbusters reboot is going to look like when it hits screens on July 22 next year. Filming began last month in Boston so we’ve got a long stretch of leaks and promotion ahead of us.

Alongside the main Ghostbusters team, the film features Neil Casey, Andy García, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Cecily Strong, Pat Kiernan, and Thor actor Chris Hemsworth as the receptionist in the Ghostbusters office. The new instalment in the franchise will arrive a little over 32 years after the first movie came out.

The original Ghostbusters — starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson — was one of the biggest hits of the ’80s, raking in close to $300 million in worldwide box office receipts and getting two Academy Award nominations along the way. A sequel followed in 1989.

That’s a big act for Feig and his gang to follow, but judging by this official photo they’re up for the challenge. What do you think of the look of the 21st-century Ghostbusters? Will the film be a hit or a miss this time next year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

What happened to the Ghostbusters franchise?
The original Ghostbusters stand on a rooftop together.

2024 marks the 40th anniversary of 1984's Ghostbusters. In the years since that landmark American comedy was released, the franchise that sprouted from it has produced four big-screen sequels, including a Paul Feig-directed reboot starring an all-female lead cast. Compared to so many of the other popular, seemingly never-ending Hollywood franchises that have emerged over the past four decades, that's not actually that many sequels. The Ghostbusters franchise has, nonetheless, changed a lot over the years.

For a long time, the franchise's film side lay dormant. Despite repeated attempts to get it off the ground again, it wasn't until Feig's 2016 reboot that any big-screen follow-up to 1989's Ghostbusters II was released. Five years later, the reboot's timeline was abandoned when Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a quasi-direct sequel to Ghostbusters II, hit theaters. The film, directed by Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman's son, Jason, relocated the franchise from New York City to Oklahoma, and that wasn't the only major change it made.

The Ghostbusters firehouse covered in ice in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024).

For Phoebe Spengler (Mckenna Grace), Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is an exercise in both failure and redemption. After being barred from active Ghostbusters duty due to her age by the Mayor of New York, Walter Peck (William Atherton), Phoebe finds solace not in her relationships with her mother, Callie (Carrie Coon), and her quasi-stepdad, Gary (Paul Rudd), but in her budding friendship/potential romance with Melody (Emily Alyn Lind), a ghost she meets playing chess in the park one night.

Three men with their hands up in the air in a scene from Horrible Bosses.

What comes to mind when you hear the name Ted? Set in the ‘90s, it centers around the antics that Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) gets up to with John (Max Burkholder in the role played by Mark Wahlberg in the movies) when John is just coming of age.
