Hulk to smash alongside the God of Thunder in Thor: Ragnarok

How do you survive Ragnarök, Norse mythology’s version of the apocalypse? Well, it helps to have a Hulk.

While Ragnarök doesn’t end well for Thor in Norse canon, Marvel does things a little differently when it comes to the God of Thunder. Case in point: There is no mention of Thor teaming up with any gamma-radiation-laden green guys in the old stories, but JoBlo is reporting that Mark Ruffalo is on board for Thor: Ragnarok nonetheless.

The film will reportedly take place on a “distant planet” and, though we don’t yet know how much time he’ll spend as Banner and how much time he’ll spend as his larger, angrier alter-ego — the character is said to “feature prominently.”

Of course, the last time we saw The Hulk he was on his way to parts unknown in a Quinjet, but did anyone really think he would just ride off into the sunset when there was still smashing left to be done?

JoBlo’s sources have also confirmed that both Tom Hiddleston (Loki!) and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif) are reprising and we learned recently that Taika Waititi (What We Do In the Shadows) will direct. Despite the fact that this movie is over two years away, Marvel seems to have most of its ducks in a row already.

Thor: Ragnarok isn’t set to hit theaters until Nov. 3, 2017 — which means you’ll have eaten two Thanksgiving dinners and will be thinking about a third by the time this premiers.

While Hemsworth’s Thor will be conspicuously absent for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, you can catch the actor as Kevin the receptionist in Ghostbusters, and as Owen Chase the whaleman in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea.

Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love and Thunder.

It's no secret that the first two Thor movies were not blockbusters on the same level as Iron Man or the Avengers. Arguably, Thor: The Dark World is one of the worst films in the MCU. Fortunately, director Taika Waititi was able to turn the Odinson's fortunes around in Thor: Ragnarok, a largely comedic take on Chris Hemsworth's thunder god that struck box office gold. That's why Waititi was invited back to direct Thor: Love and Thunder. And in a new behind-the-scenes featurette, Hemsworth and the cast of the sequel couldn't be happier with the light touch that Waititi brings to the set.

Thor and Jane reunite in new Thor: Love and Thunder trailer
The cast of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Nobody likes messy breakups, especially when you're an immortal space god. But Thor (Chris Hemsworth) had to part with the love of his life, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), years before the events of Thor: Ragnarok. However, the duo are finally reunited in the second trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. The key difference is that Jane has become the Mighty Thor, complete with the powers of Thor himself.

Are you wondering how Jane can wield Thor's hammer? The answer goes all the way back to the first Thor movie, when Odin placed an enchantment on Mjolnir. The inscription on the hammer spells out the enchantment: "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." It turns out that being worthy of the hammer's power is not gender-specific. Thus, Jane can be the new Thor because she has proven that she has the heart of a hero. But Jane's new role might make things awkward with her ex-boyfriend.

Thor: Love and Thunder teaser introduces a new goddess
Natalie Portman in Thor: Love and Thunder.

With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness just a few weeks away, it was inevitable that a trailer for Marvel's follow-up film would debut beforehand. And now, fans have their first look at Thor: Love and Thunder. This is the first MCU solo franchise to get a fourth film, although it might be a misnomer to call Love and Thunder a solo movie. After all, the Guardians of the Galaxy are here, and so is the new Thor.

As seen in the new teaser trailer, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) has become the Mighty Thor, much to the surprise of Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth). It all comes down to the enchantment on Thor's hammer, Mjölnir. To refresh your memory, it states that “Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” Jane has proven worthy, but that doesn't explain who reforged Mjölnir ... or why.
