Vying for the title of busiest man in Hollywood, Tom Hardy has yet another project on the horizon.

The Mad Max: Fury Road actor will reportedly produce a film adaptation of DC Comics’ 100 Bullets, the tale of the mysterious Agent Graves, who provides those who’ve been wronged with a gun, 100 rounds of untraceable ammunition, and information regarding the identity of the person responsible for their respective predicaments. The original comic was published under the company’s Vertigo imprint, an edgier off-shoot of its parent publisher.

It seems that Hardy is something of a DC fan. After a turn as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, the actor was all set to star in Suicide Squad before a scheduling conflict with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant waylaid those plans. And now, he’ll produce New Line’s big-screen adaptation of 100 Bullets with the intention of starring as Agent Graves.

We knew Hardy was developing something DC-related back in May, but the project was, at the time, unidentified. Here’s how he described 100 Bullets back then:

“It contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean’s Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, technicolor Pulp Fiction. It’s a psychological f—fest, it’s absolutely awesome … It’s something which is much more real world. It could be like Heat, it could be f—ing awesome.”

That’s quite the synopsis.

Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that the film will stay true to the comic, but that begs the question: What part of the comic? Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s crime saga ran for 100 issues and spanned an entire decade (1999-2009). That’s a lot of material to condense into one film, but then again, we’d be naive to think that there’s any chance this won’t turn into a franchise.

Since the project is still in its nascent stages, the release date is still TBD, as are most of the other details of the film. We’ll keep you posted as news breaks.

What’s next for the DC Universe after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Patrick Wilson and Jason Mamoa in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."

Following several delays caused by the pandemic and the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom finally swam its way into theaters. Set a few years after the first film, Arthur Curry must team up with his villainous brother Orm to defeat his nemesis, Black Manta, who has returned to destroy all that he holds dear with the power of the cursed Black Trident.

Fittingly marketed as Aquaman's last stand, this sequel film marks the final chapter set in the DC Extended Universe. After The Flash ended with the Scarlet Speedster using his powers to reboot the timeline, many have wondered how this would lead into James Gunn's DC Universe. Now that the DCEU has released its final chapter, it's a good time to break down what's next for the franchise.

5 great DC heroes like Blue Beetle that need their own movie
Xolo Maridueña catches a bus in Blue Beetle.

The bombastic feature films offered up by the DCEU have generated mixed results both critically and fiscally. Recently, films based on the comic book giant's properties haven't fared so well. Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash, which even had the added draw of Michael Keaton returning to the bat cowl, have all failed to reel in the masses and live up to the studio's expectations. As such, the trend doesn't bode well for young Jaime Reyes portrayed by Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as he dons the alien-originated Blue Beetle suit to save the day.

In the pages of DC's colorful comics, Blue Beetle has an incredibly vast history. While he isn't exactly a mainstream hero yet, at least not one that can stand against the likes of Wonder Woman, Superman, or Batman, that doesn't mean he along with other more obscure DC characters can't have some time in the spotlight. So, that begs the question: what other heroes on Blue Beetle's level deserve a cinematic adventure of their own?
