Sometimes, however, a project can feel fresh, not because of its premise, but because of the way it’s being produced.
Such is the case with We Love You, the romantic comedy from YouTube and Awesomeness Films. While even the title of the film seems pretty generic, the involvement of YouTube and Vine stars suggests that this film might not be continuing the lineage of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Failure to Launch, and other similarly paint-by-numbers rom-coms.
As per Variety, YouTuber Yousef Saleh Erakat (FouseyTube) and Viner Lele Pons are set to star alongside plain-old-fashioned actor Justin Dobies (Dear White People). The film will be released on the YouTube Red subscription service, which gives users access to ad-free music and video for $10/month.
Matt Kaplan, president of Awesomeness Films, called its latest project “a contemporary love story with a comedic twist,” and added that “it is the kind of film, supported by a cast of talented actors, that we know our audience loves.” Susanne Daniels, YouTube’s global head of original content, said, “In less than a year, Awesomeness Films has established itself as a leader in creating films audiences love, and we’re excited to partner with them again on their next film.”
Other notable YouTubers like Ray William Johnson (of YouTube series “Equals Three”) and Lauren Elizabeth Luthringshausen have also been cast in the film, which has yet to set a release date.
