Co-created by Galifianakis, Louis C.K., and Jonathan Krisel, the series follows the two brothers, Chip and Dale Baskets, one of whom is a rodeo clown. The series is currently the most-watched basic cable primetime comedy of the season and averaged 1.5 million viewers during its first three episodes, based on Nielsen’s Live+7 data. Baskets also scored well in the adults 18-49 demo with an average of 944,000 across the same time period.
“Baskets is bold, brilliant and incredibly funny, and we could not be happier with the reception it’s received in its breakout first season,” said Eric Schrier, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, according to Variety. He also made sure to highlight the impressive “comedic minds” working on the show while discussing the renewal.
Galifianakis, C.K., and Krisel all executive produce the series, along with M. Blair Breard, Dave Becky, Marc Gurvitz, and Andrea Pett-Joseph. The series co-stars Martha Kelly as Martha Brooks and Louie Anderson as Christine Baskets.
In addition to more Baskets, Galifianakis has multiple films coming up in 2016, including Tulip Fever, Keeping Up with the Joneses, and Masterminds. He is also set to team up with fellow actors Seth Rogen and Bill Hader on Universal Pictures’ upcoming comedy The Something, which does not yet have a release date. He has previously starred the Hangover movies, Birdman, and his talk show, Between Two Ferns.
Baskets is in the midst of its 10-episode first season and airs on Thursdays at 10 pm ET.
