Say hello to Ben Affleck as Batman, and his new Batmobile.

This is our first look at Ben Affleck as Batman, and his new Batmobile.

We’re just shy of two years away from seeing the sequel to Man of Steel, but that hasn’t stopped director Zack Snyder from dropping hints about the upcoming meeting between Superman and Batman in the 2016 film.

The latest teases come from Snyder’s Twitter account. First he tweeted a photo of the new, redesigned Batmobile that’s expected to debut in the Man of Steel sequel. The vehicle is covered by a cloth with the exception of the signature fin at the rear of the vehicle and two massive tires reminiscent of the “Tumbler” design from Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. That’s where the similarities seem to end, however, as the vehicle appears to sport a long and narrow design as opposed to the squat, more military-utility design of its predecessor. (A cross between Nolan’s franchise vehicle and the earlier Batman franchise, perhaps?)

Snyder shot both pics using his new Leica M Monochrom camera (read about the M Monochrom here).

A second tweet shows us a first look at what Ben Affleck looks like as the Dark Knight, and shows more of the car, which looks a lot like some of the designs from the 80s and 90s from the second angle.

With plenty of time between now and the film’s release date of May 6, 2016, there’s more than enough time to roll things out slowly for the Man of Steel sequel — though it would be nice to have an official title for the project at some point soon. While the film is being informally referred to as “Batman vs. Superman,” Warner Bros. has yet to confirm that title or any variation of it.

The sequel to Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

Update at 11:13 a.m. 5-13-2014 by Jeffrey Van Camp: Snyder tweeted the first full picture of Affleck as Batman, so we’ve added that to this post about the Batmobile. Enjoy!
