How you do tempt millions of streaming music subscribers away from competing services and on to your own? If you’re Apple, you land a few exclusives with some of the biggest names in music: The company has announced Dr. Dre’s Beats 1 radio show will premiere today, while also debuting a new video for Eminem’s latest single.

We already knew that Dre would be one of the DJs appearing on the Beats 1 radio station associated with Apple Music, but thanks to an official tweet we now know the show — called The Pharmacy — will appear later today, July 4, at 3 p.m. PDT. It’s going to appear every week at the same time too, so if you’re a Dre fan then Saturday’s the day to get your fix.

The rapper and producer is now an Apple executive after the Cupertino company picked up Beats Electronics for a cool $3 billion around this time last year, and he’s obviously happy to help out new pal Tim Cook with a regular slot on Apple Music’s flagship online radio station. “The hip-hop visionary is joined by a cast of characters who bring the West Coast to the world,” says the Apple Music Tumblr.

Eminem — who is signed to Dre’s record label — has also been busy promoting Apple Music, and the video for his new single Phenomenal has now arrived as an Apple Music exclusive. This time Apple used an Instagram post to break the news, and you can find the full seven-minute video (officially described as a “music film”) by going to Eminem’s artist page and scrolling down to the videos section.

Whether these exclusive pieces of content and celebrity endorsements will be enough to get Apple Music up off the ground remains to be seen, but it gives us plenty to check out while we’re all trying out the free three-month trial. If you don’t want Apple to automatically start your subscription when the free trial ends, here’s now to turn off auto-renew.

Apple Music may have made great strides in 2019, but Spotify remains on top of the music streaming industry that saw a significant boost in subscriptions last year.

Online music streaming subscriptions across the world increased by 32% in 2019, for a total of 358 million subscribers, according to the latest findings of Counterpoint Research. The firm attributed the steady growth of the industry to factors that include exclusive content such as podcasts, and promotions such as reduced subscription prices and bundle offers from carriers.
Spotify vs. Apple Music
Spotify continues to dominate, with 31% of the music streaming industry's total revenue and 35% of total paid subscriptions. Counterpoint analyst Abhilash Kumar said that Spotify was able to maintain its top spot due to promotions such as a free three-month trial for Spotify Premium, discounts, customized campaigns, and a focus on providing exclusive content to subscribers.

What is spatial audio? The 3D sound experience fully explained
Person listening to spatial audio using Apple AirPods Max headphones.

Since Apple added “spatial audio” to the Apple Music streaming service and the AirPods family of wireless earbuds and headphones in 2021, it feels like you can’t read about new audio products or services without running into that term. And just a few short years later, it’s seemingly everywhere.

This has led to a lot of misconceptions about what spatial audio is, how it works, and why you need to hear it for yourself. People often ask, “If Apple created spatial audio, why are other companies claiming they do it, too?” The answer is that Apple didn’t create it, and you certainly don’t need to own its products to experience spatial audio.
