MF Doom and Madlib — Avalanche

MADLIB. DOOM. AVALANCHE. (Official release 45 + lyrics)

Among the most beloved duos in the history of hip-hop, rapper MF Doom and producer Madlib have released their first new single as Madvillian in over a decade. The pair, who released the critically acclaimed album Madvilliany in 2004, are back in top form, with a beautiful vocal-fueled beat that simmers below Doom’s ever-poetic words.

The Flaming Lips — Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young)

The Flaming Lips - Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young) [Official Music Video]

Thick blankets of reverb meet soft vocal and keyboard melodies on The Flaming Lips’ latest single, which was recently released alongside a psychedelic music video. A track from the band’s upcoming album Oczy Mlody — the band’s first set of original material since 2013’s The Terror — Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young)  will please longtime fans of the band with it’s relatively tame musical elements. It’s as classic a Lips single as we’ve heard in years.

The Lemon Twigs — As Long As We’re Together

The Lemon Twigs - As Long As We're Together (Live on KEXP)

The fact that both of the D’Addario brothers — the co-leaders of Long Island, N.Y.-based band The Lemon Twigs — are not even yet 20 is absolutely not evident in their music. On this live version of As Long As We’re Together, the pair show off their intimate knowledge of classic songwriting, delivering a complex and layered ballad that will have you hitting YouTube’s repeat button again and again.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah —  Fireproof

The first new song from songwriter Alec Ounsworth’s upcoming album The Tourist to reach public ears (via his indie rock project Clap Your Hands Say Yeah) is a vulnerable pop single with clean, West Coast production. Deep bass kicks and shreddy guitars sit below doubled vocals on the track, eventually building into a force of modern pop that you’ll cling to all week long.

Michael Angelakos — Stained Glass Windows

"Stained Glass Windows" from Merry Christmas, Mr. Fields

Passion Pit songsmith Michael Angelakos released this soft Christmas single this week as part of a holiday-themed video album called Merry Christmas, Mr. Fields. Given his history of heavy electro-pop, Stained Glass Windows offers an interesting glimpse into the opposite side of his musical personality. It’s a beautifully melodic and bare-bones lullaby with a heavy dollop of nostalgia.

What is spatial audio? Apple’s 3D sound feature fully explained
Person listening to spatial audio using Apple AirPods Max headphones.

At WWDC 2021 (Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference), Apple officially added support for spatial audio with Dolby Atmos Music for Apple Music. It quickly became a popular format among consumers, too: Apple estimates that by February 2022, playback of spatial audio tracks had quadrupled from just a few months prior as people experimented with the format. But what exactly is spatial audio? How is it different from (or the same as) Dolby Atmos? And what kind of audio equipment do you need to listen to it?

There's a lot of ground to cover, and some of it is a bit technical, but we're going to break it all down in easy-to-understand terms. You'll be a spatial audio expert in minutes, and you'll know exactly how to access this growing trend in movie and music streaming.

How to convert your vinyl to a digital format
Rebirth of cool: Is vinyl ready for a second wind, or just a fad?

It doesn't matter one bit if your vinyl collection consists of just a single milk crate or if it fills several Ikea Kallax shelves and is slowly taking over your home — we can all agree that there's just something about vinyl.

Maybe it's the warm, uncompressed sound spinning off a solid turntable, or the feel of holding a physical piece of art in your hands while the record spins — it's a special experience that has regained much of its glory in a world dominated by digital streaming. The problem is, records are fragile, and crates full of them don't fit in your back pocket.
