Ben Affleck returns as Batman in new movie, The Flash

Ben Affleck is reprising his role as Batman in the upcoming film, The Flash.

The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti, is set to release in June 2022 and will center around the lightening-fast hero, Barry Allen, which will be played by Ezra Miller, according to Vanity Fair. The movie will be an adaptation to DC Comics’ Flashpoint series.

While it’s not a Batman movie on its own, Affleck’s portrayal as Batman will reportedly aid to the Flash’s own storyline.

“It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie,” Muschietti told Vanity Fair. “That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

Affleck made his Batman debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also played Bruce Wayne in Justice League in 2017 and made a brief cameo as the superhero in Suicide Squad.

“His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity — because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline — but he’s also very vulnerable,” Muschietti added about Affleck. “He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability.

The first look of The Flash will happen at this weekend’s DC FanDome 24-hour virtual event. The event will feature panels for DC’s biggest upcoming movies, television shows, and everything in between.

Aside from Affleck in The Flash, a separate Batman movie is in the works with Robert Pattinson portraying Bruce Wayne. The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and features Colin Farrell, Jeremy Irons, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright. That film is scheduled to debut in October 2021.

Is Jennifer Garner’s 2005 Elektra movie really that bad?

Twenty years after she originated the role of Elektra in the Ben Affleck movie Daredevil, Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Garner will return to her Marvel character in Deadpool 3. The Ryan Reynolds-led film also stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and it is heavily rumored that it will feature other characters and actors from 20th Century Fox's Marvel movies. Garner's inclusion certainly makes those rumors appear to be true. And Garner has the unique, and dubious distinction, of headlining the very first solo Marvel heroine movie: Elektra.

Following Daredevil's release in 2003, Fox didn't immediately order a sequel. Instead, Fox went forward with a spinoff movie starring Garner's character, Elektra Natchios. Elektra arrived in theaters on January 14, 2005, and it promptly bombed at the box office. The poorly reviewed movie arguably prevented other Marvel heroines from getting their chance to headline a film until Captain Marvel in 2019. It's also worth noting that neither Elektra nor Daredevil are currently available to stream on any service, although they can be purchased or rented from digital outlets. If Marvel and Disney want to bury these films, that's the easy way to do it.

Batgirl should have been released instead of The Flash. Here’s why

It seemed both inevitable and surprising at the same time when news of The Flash bombing at the box office began to circulate on the Iinternet earlier this week. Plagued by numerous development hiccups, departing directors, a lead star engaging in erratic and criminal behavior, and a relentless and increasingly desperate marketing campaign, the movie failed to ignite the imagination of the mass audience it needed to have in order to succeed.

It's still up for debate as to why WB was so adamant about standing by this misbegotten project and why it was so eager to shelve Batgirl, a nearly completed movie that starred Leslie Grace as the titular heroine and, like The Flash, brought back Michael Keaton's Batman. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who had a commercial hit with Bad Boys For Life and a critical hit with the Ms. Marvel MCU series, Batgirl had all the ingredients needed for a breakout hit: a rising young star, a veteran returning to an iconic role, a supporting cast that included a recent Oscar winner, and a modest budget that allowed more room for a satisfying return on investment.

Zack Snyder's crossover epic begins with Bruce Wayne recounting a dream he had about the death of his parents. This sequence juxtaposes Thomas and Martha's murders with Bruce's fall into a bat-filled cave, symbolizing his descent into grief following this tragedy. Each frame of this beautiful scene looks like a panel from an actual comic book, and the somber song that plays in this scene captures the loss of Bruce's innocence at the hands of a random criminal.
And with the swarm of bats carrying him into the light, audiences see his rise out of that darkness as Batman. But this proves to be a brief glimmer of hope, as the film later shows how far the Dark Knight has fallen after facing so much tragedy and heartbreak in the pursuit of this "beautiful lie."
