Snapchat is down again. Here’s the latest on the outage

After being down for a few hours for users worldwide, Snapchat’s app appears to be working again.

According to Down Detector, users were having trouble receiving and sending snaps, as well as dealing with issues with the app itself loading properly. At least 8,000 people reported problems having problems on Wednesday, October 9. The problems appear to have started around 9 a.m. PT.

Snapchat users took to Twitter to complain about the outage and to confirm that they weren’t the only ones experiencing issues with the popular app.

Down Detector says the mobile app has had problems every day this month so far. Snapchat’s official Twitter account for support has tweeted out that the company is aware of Wednesday’s issues.

“We’re aware some Snapchatters are having trouble using the app. Hang tight — we are looking into it,” Snapchat’s support account tweeted out.

Though it appears to be working again for most users, Snapchat support hasn’t tweeted out that the issues are completely fixed yet.

Snapchat was previously down on September 9, the same day Instagram also experienced outage issues. It’s not clear what caused the issues or whether the outages on both sites were linked. Other recent outages include one that affected Reddit, which was down for nearly two hours last month and resulted in tens of thousands of people being unable to access their favorite subreddits.

Digital Trends reached out to Snapchat to comment on the outages, as well as find out when users can expect them to be fixed. We’ll update this story once we hear back.

Snapchat is currently in a bit of hot water with the state of Illinois following a class-action lawsuit that alleges that the company violated the privacy rights of Illinois app users. While the suit is still ongoing, parent company Snap Inc. could owe residents up to $35 million. That number is subject to change as the lawsuit continues toward its final approval, which is scheduled for November, according to NBC Chicago.

Although it's never a good thing when a tech company violates the rights of its userbase, the silver lining here is that Snapchat users could be getting a check in the mail as long as they fill out the required forms.
