Geneva 2013: Pulling the veil off the 2014 Volvo S60

Volvo has just debuted a new S60 with updated looks and interior ahead of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, along with some refreshes of most of its major models. The S60, however, remains our favorite.

The S60 has never really had the cult following enjoyed by its German rivals like the BMW 3 Series, but for those who have driven it, it’s every bit the sporty family sedan that offerings from Mercedes and Audi are.

On the new interior, buyers will find the extra details that customers have been asking for, including automatic transmission paddle shifters behind the steering wheel and a brighter, more striking instrument cluster. We like the more modern instrument cluster colors and centrist design but worry it’s a bit too Honda-y.

On the front end, the grille is a bit squatter and the hood is a bit more sinewy. In true Scandinavian form, the updates are extremely subtle and clean but improve the lines of the already outstanding looking S60.

Under the hood, the U.S. engine options remain the same: a turbocharged five-cylinder producing 300 horsepower or a turbocharged six-cylinder producing 325 horsepower. Both front and all-wheel drive setups are available.

We asked a Volvo representative when the refreshed 2014 S60 would be available in showrooms Stateside but we’ve not yet received a response. As soon as we do, though, we’ll be sure to update this space with all the details.
