Canon PowerShot SD4000 Brings HD Video, Low-Light Capability

Summer is often a time when families head out into the world and try to make some memories, and Canon wants to make sure it’s along for the ride with its new PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital Elph camera. The SD4000 offers HD video capture, a 10 megapixel resolution, and a brought ƒ/2.0 lend the lets more light into the camera, permitting higher shutter speeds—and thus better images and less noise—in low-light conditions.

“With the introduction of the new PowerShot SD4000 IS, Canon is putting the power of high-quality photography in an ultra-compact size to amplify the experience and quality customers see when shooting with a Canon camera,” said Canon USA’s executive VP and general manager for consumer imaging Yuichi Ishizuka, in a statement. “The two functions in the HS SYSTEM allow our customers to capture the clearest pictures in any setting, resulting in more of a professional look.”

The PowerShot SD4000 features a 3-inch widescreen LCD viewfinder for framing shots and moving quickly through the camera’s features, a 3.8× optical zoom, support for high-capacity SDXC memory cards and Eye-Fi memory cards to add Wi-Fi wireless connectivity to the camera. Users hook the camera up to PCs using USB, and an HDMI port enables users to push video and images out to big-screen TVs. The PowerShot SD4000 also features a Super Slow Motion movie function that enables users to record video at frame rates as high as 240 frames per second (making those action shots extra epic); the camera also supports a 8.4fps burst rate for still images to get stills of those fast-moving moments.

The PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital Elph camera should be available at the end of May for a suggested price of $349.99. The camera will come in black, silver, and red variations, along with a limited edition white version available directly from Canon.
