Fujifilm is stepping up to the plate by adding the much-missed tethering feature to the X-T2. On Monday, Fujifilm announced a firmware upgrade will allow the X-T2 to connect to a computer via USB using a Fujifilm plug-in for Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.

The firmware is expected to be released on November 8, while the software add-on will release in November for Mac OS X and December for Windows. The software updated is expected to bring tethered shooting to the Fujifilm X-T2. Just like earlier versions of the plug-in, the Tether Shooting Plug-In Pro is still compatible with the Fujifilm X-T1.

According to Fujifilm, the firmware update with the plug-in will allow users to not only display images on the monitor but to save the images directly to the computer. The plug-in will also allow photographers to control the camera from the computer, including exposure settings and the shutter release, using the PC mode.

The software add-on also allows the photographer to use Live View mode from the computer, and see everything that the camera sees before triggering a shot.

The software can also be used to set up automated shooting, including interval shots for time lapses as well as bracketing options.

The firmware version 1.10 is the first update to the X-T2, Fujifilm’s 2016 flagship boasting a 14-fps burst speed, 325 autofocus points, and 4K video.

While the firmware is free, the tethering feature requires the Photoshop or Lightroom plug-in, which will be available from Adobe’s add-on store for $79, or Fujifilm’s Windows-only PC Tethered Shooting Software HS-V5. While the feature is one that many Fujifilm users will likely appreciate, the software does not address another user complaint — that Canon and Nikon users can already tether in Lightroom without purchasing an add-on.
