High speed and slow motion capture at high resolution, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a 12.8-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor are some of the features JVC is touting in the Procision GC-PX100, their new flagship consumer camcorder that’s designed with sports and other action sequences in mind.
The GC-PX100 has a SLR-style body design with a mode dial and other controls readily accessible, such as the dial near the lens that let you choose between five shooting speeds (ranging from 120 frames per second to 600). The GC-PX100 can shoot Full HD 1920 x 1080/60p video at 36Mbps, which lets you capture slow-motion at a high resolution. The 29.5mm wide-angle lens has a fast aperture of F1.2 and a 10x optical zoom with sensor-shift optical image stabilization. Multiple recording formats are supported, such as MP4 and AVCHD Progressive. You can also grab nine still images from video in burst mode and shoot time-lapse videos. The Zoom Position Memory lets you quickly switch between three angles of view.
With the JVC CAM Coach app for iOS and Android, you can use the camera’s Wi-Fi to connect to a smartphone or tablet to view videos and images; you can also make notes on playback footage displayed on the smart device, like they do in sports commentary on TV. Other Wi-Fi-related features include side-by-side video for comparative viewing and scene tagging.
The GC-PX100 has a three-inch tilting LCD with an LCD monitor hood, while a color viewfinder is optional. The camera is available now for $1,000.
