Lume Cube
A new Kickstarter that aims to put a versatile lighting tool inside users’ pockets has smashed through its initial funding goal in 29 hours. Life Lite, designed from the makers of the Lume Cube, is essentially the GoPro of lighting accessories — it’s small, waterproof, and durable enough to get in the action.

The Life Lite is a Bluetooth-controlled light source compatible with pretty much any camera from an iPhone or a GoPro to a DSLR as a constant light source. Adapters allow the accessory to be mounted over or next to a smartphone, action camera, or DSLR — or the light’s small size can be used for more creative effects such as lighting the water underneath a surfboard or simply a glass of water.

Introducing the Līfe Līte

With up to 1,000 lumens, the Life Lite has about 70 percent of the power of the original Lume Cube but in only half the size. Connecting the light via Bluetooth, an iOS or Android smartphone allows users to change the light’s brightness and duration, allowing it to serve as a flash, strobe, or constant light. A red-eye reduction mode is also controlled through the app.

On the outside, the Life Lite uses a tripod mount at the bottom as well as an internal magnet for attaching in odd places. The Kickstarter project includes several additional mounting accessories, including a smartphone mount, hot shoe mount for DLSRs, and a dual light GoPro accessory.

The light is waterproof down to 30 feet. Using an internal lithium ion battery, the Life Lite can run at full power for 30 minutes or for an hour at half power.

The Life Lite is launching on Kickstarter but has already nearly doubled its original $33,000 goal. The lighting accessory is available for pledges starting at $39. Developers say the Life Lite is expected to ship in March 2017.
