MindShift Gear, the sister company of Think Tank Photo, unveiled two new camera bags designed specifically for outdoor photographers, the TrailScape and the SidePath.
The TrailScape is an 18-liter bag that features a similar design and identical color scheme to MindShift’s larger FirstLight bag. What differentiates the two is the size and intended purpose. Unlike the FirstLight bag, which is designed with gear-heavy DSLR photographers in mind, the TrailScape features a smaller form for photographers who prefer more compact DSLR setups or mirrorless cameras.
The TrailScape features a dedicated pocket for a laptop up to 13 inches in size and a tablet up to 10 inches. In addition to padded pockets for computer gear, there are smaller pockets for pens, batteries, multitools, and more.
When using a mirrorless setup, the TrailScape is capable of easily holding up to three cameras and half a dozen lenses. If you are a compact DSLR photographer, you should be able to fit a non-gripped DSLR with a 70–200mm lens attached, as well as a few other lenses or speed lights.
The SidePath follows suit in terms of the small form factor. Weighing in at only 1.6 pounds and offering 14 liters of internal volume, the SidePath is the smallest backpack in MindShift’s lineup. One of the unique features of the bag is its rear-panel access, which is capable of holding a compact DSLR setup or a slightly more robust mirrorless setup. Don’t expect to fit much more than a camera body and one or two lenses inside the SidePath. Whatever you do decide to pack though, the rear panel design should help keep your gear more safe against any would-be thieves.
The remaining space inside the bag includes room for extra items of clothing, camera accessories, and a dedicated pocket that holds tablets up to 10 inches in size or a 1.5-liter hydration bladder. Just make sure your hydration bladder is not prone to leaks. The last thing you want is a camera compartment flooded.
If you are looking to pack lighter on your next photo adventure, these two bags might be right up your alley. The TrailScape is available for $170 and the SidePath comes in at $99.
