The compact form-factor of mirrorless cameras make them easy to carry, but their smaller sizes could pose an issue when attaching a heavy lenses or those from third-party lens makers. For owners of Sony’s E-mount Alpha/NEX cameras, whether it’s the full-frame A7-series or the APS-C A6000, Dpreview found a product called Fotodiox (via PetaPixel), called the Tough E-Mount, that does as its name suggests: to strengthen the camera’s mounting system.

Why would you want to install a new mount? Some Sony owners have reported a loose connection when a lens is mounted. Some easy assembly is required with the Tough E-Mount (takes about 5 minutes), but the new metal ring (chrome brass) effectively replaces the camera’s original mount and provides a movement-free coupling, Dpreview says.

The Tough E-Mount sells for $40 – a small investment to ensure your lenses are mounted properly. However, since you’re altering the camera, it could void Sony’s warranty; always double-check before you make any modifications, and save the original parts.

AP photographers to receive Sony cameras and lenses in exclusive partnership

Images from the Associated Press will soon be almost exclusively shot with Sony gear. In a collaboration announced today, the AP says that its journalists located in 100 different countries will all be outfitted with Sony cameras, lenses, and accessories. A Sony representative told Digital Trends that each full-time photographer and videographer will be outfitted with two Sony bodies and four to five lenses and accessories.

Prior to the agreement, AP photographers shot with a mix of different gear and brands. With the new agreement, full-time staffers will exclusively use Sony gear for both photos and video. The agreement does not affect freelance content creators, who may continue to use their own gear.

Sony arguably makes the best full-frame camera on the market, but the true strength of its Alpha-series mirrorless system may lie in its lenses. The new 12-24mm f/2.8 G Master is out to prove this. It is the widest f/2.8 full-frame zoom of any manufacturer -- and at $3,000, it won't come cheap.

Shipping August 13, the 12-24mm marks Sony's 11th lens in its high-end G Master line.
