Season one of the series is slated to arrive on Netflix on Friday. Director, producer, and videographer Abraham Joffe follows the five photographers as they explore both nature and culture in little-known areas of the world, from Antartica to the bottom of the ocean.
“Having Tales by Light Season One available on Netflix is a wonderful acclamation of the quality and broad appeal of our Australian-made photography series and we are excited that it will now entertain millions of subscribers around the world,” said Jason McLean, the executive producer and Canon Australia’s director of consumer imaging. “This series is unique and started from our simple aim of celebrating the amazing visual storytellers who push the creative boundaries and it’s great that this concept resonates so well across regional divides.”
Shot in 4K, the first season of Tales by Light debuted on the National Geographic Channel in Australia and New Zealand. Produced in 2015, a trailer of the show’s second season is already available.
The series follows Art Wolfe, a nature and cultural photographer, Darren Jew, a nature and underwater photographer, Krystle Wright, an adventure sports photographer, Richard I’Anson, a travel photographer, and Peter Eastway, a landscape photographer. While the series travels across the globe, the production work was completed in Australia.
Each episode dives into a behind-the-scenes look at a different project (or two), from India’s festival of Holi to Alaskan brown bears. While there is no word on a Netflix release date for season two, the second set of videos follows Big Cat Diary’s Angela and Johnathan Scott, WetPixel’s Eric Cheng and war photographer Stephen Dupont.
