Sound of the swipe: Tinder now lets you use Spotify to find a date

Music speaks to people, and in dating, sometimes it can speak for them as well. Starting today, Tinder users can pin a song to their profile as their Tinder Anthem, courtesy of Spotify.

With or without a Spotify account, all Tinder users can add an Anthem song to their profile and preview other Tinder users’ Anthems. Once Tinder users open the app for the first time after updating it, they will be notified that Spotify has been added to their dating quest. Users will then be able to choose to opt-in to the Spotify integration and choose a Tinder Anthem and/or simply connect their Spotify account. All users will be able to search through more than 30 million songs from Spotify’s library straight from the Tinder app until they find the song that speaks to them.

Every Tinder user can sample a bit more of the musical tastes of another Tinder user beyond their Anthem. But, only Tinder users who have connected their Spotify account will be able to select and edit a list of up to 20 of the Top Artists on Spotify to add to their profile. Tinder’s algorithm will choose 10 of Spotify’s top artists to display on a profile at a time, including any artists you and a potential match have both selected. Any Tinder user can preview the most popular song on Spotify from every artist on another profile.

Tinder will also be trying to help you soundtrack your dating life on Spotify with curated playlists. Dubbed “Tinder Music,” the dating app will have playlists under five themes “Pre-Swipe,” “Discovery,” “Match,” “Love at First Swipe,” and “Date Night.

The world leader in subscription on-demand music streaming started flirting with online dating back in June when it partnered with dating app Bumble, founded by Tinder co-founder Whitney Wolfe. There have also been other dating apps dedicated to matching people based on music taste, such as Tastebuds.fm which allows people to search for artists and/or songs and find people with similar interests.

With millions of people using both Tinder and Spotify every day, Beyoncé may help you get a date.

Spotify is finally making it easier to block unwanted followers

Spotify is rolling out a new feature that will make it much easier to block people that you don't want following your activity on the service. Until now, subscribers have had no control over who could actually see their listening activity and public playlists. Although you could make a request to Spotify’s customer support team to ask them to block a specific person for you, this required more effort, and many folks didn’t even know it existed. Your other option was to disable the social media part of the service entirely, but that's not an ideal solution for when you do want to share with friends. 

With the new changes, you’ll be able to block someone simply by visiting their user profile and looking for the Block User option in the Three Dots menu at the top. Once you do this, that person won’t be able to access any of your listening activity or even see your profile page.

Twitter for iOS now lets you dig up people’s tweets more easily

Twitter recently rolled out a new feature to its iOS app, making it easier to search the tweets of an individual user. Previously, the search term could be amended manually if you wanted to filter tweets by a particular person, but Twitter has added a button for easier access, as spotted by XDA Developers.

Twitter has long since offered advanced search filters on its platforms, whether on desktop or mobile. This was to allow people who wanted to streamline their search by more precise parameters to do so. One of those parameters included usernames, and there was both a field for searching usernames directly, as well as a shortcut (from:username search term) where you could input into the search bar.
