If you want to optimize your Tinder experience, try using it at 9 p.m. That’s when most users are on the dating app, according to new statistics from Nielsen.

The same also goes for OkCupid, as users reportedly swarm to both dating services in the evening, which is also when you are most likely to get a response. Log in a mere hour later and you’ll find your chances for a match drop significantly, as usage tumbles post-10 p.m., which is bad news for late-night booty calls.

Nielsen, best known for tracking TV viewership figures, tracked the dating apps as part of its Electronic Mobile Measurement program, which sees it gather smartphone data from around 9,000 panelists.

As you can see in the graph below, most people avoid Tinder in the early hours of the morning, choosing to jump on in the evening instead, between 6-10 p.m.

OkCupid, on the other hand, is ideal for early risers, surging in popularity between 8-10 a.m., and steadily falling during parts of the afternoon, evening, and late night.

“When we look at unique audience, we see that a larger percentage of all [OkCupid] users sign in both in the morning and night,” a Nielsen statement said. “On Tinder, the user’s likelihood to check in between noon and midnight is mostly flat at about 40 percent.”

Sticking with percentages, the 9 p.m. spike sees 51.64 percent of both apps’ respective audiences logging on. In a close second place, is 4 p.m. with 50.61 percent – perhaps due to a bout of late afternoon procrastination at work.

With the stats being released to brands just in time for Valentine’s Day, you may be able to use the data to your own advantage. So what are you waiting for? Take your best selfie, brush up on your emoji-led chat-up lines, and get to it.

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino tweeted on Monday that despite the current fuss over Meta’s new and very similar Threads app, Twitter had its largest usage day last week.

Subtly including the name of Meta’s new app, which launched to great fanfare last Wednesday, Yaccarino did her best to sing Twitter’s praises, tweeting: “Don’t want to leave you hanging by a thread … but Twitter, you really outdid yourselves! Last week we had our largest usage day since February. There’s only ONE Twitter. You know it. I know it.”

The pandemic was supposed to have made us all comfortable with video calls, but many folks still don’t particularly enjoy the process.

Having to think about what to wear, or how our hair looks, or even fretting about puffy eyes following another bout of hay fever can sometimes be a bit much, even more so if it’s an early-morning call and your brain is still in bed.
