Woman in a stolen dress posts selfie on Facebook, arrested soon after

After posting a photo of herself on Facebook in a recently acquired dress, it’s unlikely that 27-year-old Danielle Saxton thought it would lead to her arrest soon after. Detailed by the owners of Mortie’s Boutique in West Frankfort, Illinois, store security cameras captured a woman stealing a very distinct, multicolored, leopard-print dress, along with two shirts, a pair of sunglasses, and a necklace. Soon after the theft, the owners posted about the incident on the company’s official Facebook page asking the public to keep an eye out for the stolen goods.

According to details of an interview with the owners on local CBS affiliate KFVS 12, store owner Kert Williams said “We posted a picture, not a picture, just words saying ‘If anyone sees a leopard color dress, let us know about it, come tell us, call us, text us.’ At 6:30 we got this picture saying, ‘Love my new dress,’ on the selfie she took.” Williams continued “I got a message saying. ‘Is this the dress you’re talking about?’ Well, yep that’s it! There is only one neon leopard print dress that we have.“

After the authorities were supplied with both the security footage of the theft as well as the Facebook photos that Saxton posted, police immediately arrested Saxton for a theft that totaled up to less than $300. In addition, Saxton is being held on outstanding warrant related to a previous drug charge.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that a selfie has led to the arrest of a criminal. During December of 2013, 19-year-old Depree Johnson was arrested after posting multiple photos of himself with weapons, stolen cash, and drugs on his personal Instagram account. Police charged him with more than 140 counts of being a felon in possession of illegal goods.
