Honor’s new smartwatch will launch by the end of the year

Honor will release a new smartwatch by the end of the year. The company will soon start teasing the launch of a new product through its social channels, using a Halloween theme and the outline of a watch-like product to let us know something special is coming in the near future.

The company confirmed to Digital Trends that the new product is indeed a smartwatch, and that it will be released before the end of the year. The smartwatch will be a follow-up to the Honor Magic Watch, a little-seen but rather impressive smartwatch launched at the beginning of the year. While this has given us more information on when we will see Honor’s new smartwatch, there’s still plenty we don’t know.

Honor’s teaser shows the outline of a smartwatch — which closely resembles the original Honor Magic Watch’s design — and says, “Your eye candy is here,” to fit in with the Halloween theme. There’s no hint of the product name, but it being called the Honor Magic Watch 2 is probably a safe bet. The image shows the watch with two buttons on the side, placed at the top and the bottom of the case.

Not only is this similar to the Magic Watch, it’s also the same as the Huawei Watch GT 2, the Mobvoi Ticwatch C2, the new Moto 360, and to a certain extent, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2. It’s a hard design to get right, visually, but the comfort improvements are usually welcome, as there’s no central crown to poke into your wrist.

For the first Magic Watch, Honor made the sensible decision to use a 1.2-inch screen, making it considerably more wearable than watches with a 1.4-inch screen. For the Watch GT 2, Huawei produced two models, a 42mm case with a 1.2-inch screen and a 46mm version with a 1.4-inch screen. Honor may choose to do the same, or opt for only the smaller size to suit all wrists. It’s likely Honor will use the same software Huawei uses for the Watch GT 2 on its new smartwatch.

The smartwatch will follow the Honor 9X, the firm’s most recent smartphone release, and a trio of new wearables — the Honor Band 5, the Band Sport, and the Honor Sport Pro headphones. Honor President George Zhao recently told Digital Trends there would be “more wearable products coming than ever before from Honor in 2020,” and also told us a new smartwatch would arrive before the end of the year. This mystery watch is likely what he was referring to, and it is part of a larger push into wearables and connected products by both Honor and Huawei.

With potentially several months to go before Honor’s new smartwatch is revealed, expect to hear more about it between now and the end of the year.

9 new Apple products that could launch in 2023
The back of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

As it currently stands, 2023 has already been a busy year for Apple. The company launched a new yellow iPhone 14, brought back the HomePod, and refreshed its Mac lineup with an M2 Mac mini and M2 MacBook Pro. But what else is on the docket? As it turns out, a lot more. From new iPhones, an upgraded Apple Watch, and possibly an AR headset, here are nine products we still expect from Apple in 2023.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro

If there is any Apple product with an upgrade cycle that’s literally like clockwork, it’s the iPhone, which is always out in the fall. This year, we can expect the iPhone 15 lineup to include an iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, it is rumored that the iPhone 15 will have a bigger 6.2-inch display this year, but the rest of the lineup will have the same sizes as before.

Samsung may be getting ready to launch a new AirTag rival this year
Galaxy SmartTag

Samsung is not the first brand that comes to mind when you are out shopping for an object tracker. That kind of consumer trust and appeal is currently commanded by Tile, which kickstarted the trend, and Apple's popular AirTag. However, Samsung wants to wiggle its way into that space with yet another object tracker that's destined to arrive soon.

Citing unnamed sources, SamMobile reports that Samsung is planning a refresh of its Galaxy Smart Tag portfolio. And if all things go according to plan, the second-gen object tracker from Samsung will hit the shelves in the third quarter of 2023 — possibly around the same time frame as the launch of Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones.

I used two of the year’s oddest tech gadgets so you don’t have to
The open Nokia 5710 XpressAudio and Huawei Watch Buds

If you’re intent on not keeping your true wireless earbuds in a normal charging case, and want to hide them inside a different gadget, now is your time. The Huawei Watch Buds is a smartwatch with a pair of true wireless headphones inside, and the Nokia 5710 XpressAudio is a 4G phone that stores a pair of earbuds in the back.

It’s a bizarre niche that I’m surprised contains two products. I’ve used them, so it's my duty to report that both are a bit silly — and I don’t want to use any more of them, thank you very much. However, for the few people out there thinking they want to buy one, this is what they're like. For everyone else, you get to marvel at two of the oddest tech products seen in a while.
Phone or smartwatch?
