Jawbone may release $50 Move fitness tracker and the new Up 3 soon

Fitness trackers just keep getting cheaper. Not too long ago, Misfit introduced the $50 Flash fitness tracker and now it seems that Jawbone will follow suit with it’s own $50 Move tracker. The same report hints that the more premium Jawbone Up 3 fitness band will also debut around the same time as the Move.

In light of increased competition in the fitness wearable space, a report from the Information claims that Jawbone will add a slew of new sensors to its high-end Up 3 band. A heart rate monitor and other sensors geared toward more accurately recording sleep and calorie burn are expected to arrive on the Up 3. The band is also expected to feature a new sleek design and will probably cost around $180, making it the most expensive of Jawbone’s wearables.

To make up for the high price of the Up 3, Jawbone may also introduce a $50 fitness tracker called Move. It seems unlikely that the Move will have a heart rate monitor as well, but it will probably track all the basic fitness metrics, such as calorie burn, steps taken, quality of sleep, and so on. The Move will be Jawbone’s entry-level band, coming in at $30 less than the Jawbone Up and $80 less than the Up 24.

However, as the price of fitness bands continues to drop, Jawbone may be in trouble. After all, Xiaomi is now selling its own Mi Band for just $13 in China. Still, if you want a tracker that keeps tabs on everything from activity, calories, sleep, and heart rate, you’ll still need to pay a bit more.

Fitbit recalls Ionic smartwatch after several burn reports

Fitbit Ionic smartwatch users need to stop using their devices right now. The company has recalled its Ionic wearable after over 150 reports of the watch’s lithium-ion battery overheating, and 78 reports of burn injuries to the users. It will offer a refund of $299 to the Fitbit Ionic smartwatch users who return the device.

Fitbit has received at least 115 reports in the United States and over 50 reports internationally about the Ionic smartwatch's battery overheating. It is recalling the device as there are two reports of third-degree burns and four reports of second-degree burns out of the 78 total burn injuries report.
