Amazon is currently hiring for its own Amazon Fashion Private Label

Amazon doesn’t just want to sell you everything — it wants to clothe you, too.

According to a number of job postings on the e-retailer’s website, the company is starting to staff a private label for its Amazon Fashion.

Since the start of February, Amazon has posted nine positions within its Amazon Fashion Private Label, most based out of Seattle where Amazon has its headquarters. Those positions include an associate merchandiser, fit specialist, and head of product quality and fit. The latter position, based out of Seattle, will “ensure all Amazon fashion products delight our customers in terms of product quality and fit,” the listing states.

The shift from retailer to manufacturer may seem like Amazon trying to stretch itself too thin, but the e-commerce giant believes it could be an inevitable evolution of the business. At the WWD Apparel and Retail CEO Summit back in October 2015, Jeff Yurcisin, Vice President of clothing at Amazon Fashion, stated that Amazon may start selling clothing because there’s still brands customers want that don’t sell through Amazon. “When we see gaps, when certain brands have actually decided for their own reasons not to sell with us, our customer still wants a product like that.”

“When we see gaps, when certain brands have actually decided for their own reasons not to sell with us, our customer still wants a product like that,” Yurcisin said.

The job listings is the latest effort Amazon has made in its ramped-up efforts to enter the fashion world. Last July, the company recruited noted London model Suki Waterhouse for its first fashion campaign. The campaign came during the same month Amazon opened a  46,000-square-foot photography studio in Shoreditch, London to produce advertisements for the fashion brands being sold on Amazon’s European sites. The online giant opened a similar studio in the trendy Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, two years earlier at the end of 2013.

If and when Amazon’s clothing line comes out, one question will burn in everyone’s mind about the site that made everything cheaper: What will the discounts be?

Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg helps Amazon launch Echo Dot concepts
amazon launches new fashion forward echo dot concepts midnight kiss 3

Have you looked at your smart home devices and thought, "Gee, I wish some of these were more stylish?" Now you have the chance to add a bit of flair to your smart home thanks to a collaboration between Amazon and the famous fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. This is done through the Build It program, a way for customers to pre-order limited-edition versions of popular accessories. In this case, the device on the table is the Echo Dot.
How Build It works
Build It gives customers a say in what devices are manufactured next. Customers choose from different concepts by pre-ordering the ones they want, often at a special promotional price. After its launch, the concept has a set pre-order goal that must be reached within 30 days. If it meets this goal, Amazon will build it, and those that pre-ordered will be the first to receive the product. If the concept doesn't reach its goal, it won't be produced. Either way, customers aren't charged for the device until it actually ships.

This system means that customers can vote with their preorders without wasting money on a device that may never be built. It's Amazon's version of crowdsourcing style.

Amazon confirmed its first case of COVID-19 at a U.S. warehouse back in March 2020 when the pandemic was just starting to take hold in the country. Since then, it won't surprise you to learn that many more workers at the company have contracted the illness.

The e-commerce giant said on Thursday that after a “thorough analysis” of data on all 1,372,000 front-line Amazon and Whole Foods Market employees throughout the U.S., employed at any time between March and September, 19,816 employees (excluding delivery drivers) have tested positive or been presumed positive for the coronavirus.
