A Chilean computer hacker decided he had to show just how insecure confidential government records are in his country. So he hacked into government servers for the military, the education ministry and the electoral service, amassing confidential data of six million Chileans, then posted it to a technology blog, according to newspaper El Mercurio.
The data covered everything from addresses and phone numbers to educational records and ID card numbers. The administrators of the Chilean technology blog removed it immediately, along with the message from the hacker explaining why he’d done it, and contacted authorities.
The material was also posted to another blog, but removed from there, too. Police are investigating.
